Twelve-year-old Andrés from Mexico made a heartbreaking decision—one that no child should ever have to make. He gave up his beloved puppy, not because he didn’t love him, but because he loved him too much to let him suffer.
A Secret Act of Kindness
Andrés couldn’t bear to see his puppy being hurt anymore. His father, sadly, was abusing the little dog, hitting and kicking it. Once, he kicked the puppy so hard, it injured its tiny tail. Andrés knew things wouldn’t get better. His dad was even planning to sell the puppy.
So, in a brave and quiet act of love, Andrés and his mother came up with a plan. They secretly placed the puppy in a cardboard box and took him to a rescue shelter. They did it behind the father’s back to protect the pup.

“My name is Andrés and I’m 12 years old. My mom and I decided to leave him with you. All of this is behind my dad’s back because he was thinking of selling him.
But he is always beating and kicking the dog. Once he kicked him so hard that his little tail got injured.

A Shelter Steps In
Luckily, the puppy wasn’t left alone for long. He was found by the kind people at Refugio Xollin, an animal rescue shelter that helps abandoned and abused dogs.
“We found the puppy inside a box, with a note and a teddy,” said a shelter worker. “The letter said the boy’s father hurt the dog and was going to sell him. We could feel the sadness in every word.”
The shelter team quickly took the puppy in. His tail was checked by a vet and seemed to be injured. He was also given medicine and proper care. They promised to do everything to make him healthy again.

A New Beginning
The shelter gave the puppy a funny and sweet nickname: Baby Pig—because of his playful and greedy personality. They said he’s full of life and loves being around the other 203 dogs at the shelter.
“Even after everything he’s been through, he still has so much love to give,” the shelter said. “That’s the beauty of dogs. They forgive. They trust again. They just want to love.”
