A House Left Behind… But Not Empty
The SRSL team drove out to check on an abandoned house one cold morning. They expected it to be empty and forgotten.
But then, something caught their eye in the backyard.
There, lying curled up on the frozen grass, was a dog. He was chained tightly to a doghouse, surrounded by snow and silence. Inside the doghouse was a bowl of water, completely frozen solid.
The dog was trembling, his body shivering from the biting cold. He looked so small and defeated. But somehow, his spirit was still holding on.
Rescued Just In Time
Donna Lochmann, one of the kind rescuers, couldn’t believe her eyes. The cold wind stung their faces, and even standing outside for a few minutes was painful. But this poor pup had been left there for who knows how long.

At the rescue, Eskimo Joe was checked by their vet team. Sadly, he tested positive for heartworm—a condition caused by parasites. But with proper treatment, it can be cured. And that’s exactly what SRSL promised him: care, healing, and love.

Finding Comfort in a Foster Home
It didn’t take long before a kind foster mom opened her heart and home to Eskimo Joe. And she was completely smitten.
“He is the most gentle soul I have ever met,” she said. “He’s crate trained, potty trained, and walks so nicely on a leash. He sits politely for food and treats, and he loves chin scratches. He’s become the best couch buddy.”
Eskimo Joe started to shine. His eyes were brighter. His body is stronger. And his heart is full.
Waiting for a Forever Family
Today, Eskimo Joe is enjoying his cozy foster home. He naps on soft blankets, goes for walks, and soaks up all the cuddles he can get. He’s still waiting for his forever family—but he’s no longer cold, hungry, or afraid.
His foster mom shared, “He’s curious about the world now that he’s free. He deserves the best, and I just know the perfect family is out there waiting for him.”
