Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 dog rescue, has dedicated her life to saving stray dogs in Southern California. Calls from concerned Good Samaritans are common for her, but one recent call stood out—it was about three tiny dogs found abandoned together on a deserted property in Compton.
The dogs refused to leave each other’s side, clinging to the only comfort they had: each other. Suzette knew this would be a challenging rescue, but she also knew these pups had no one else.
The First Glimpse of Hope
When Suzette saw a photo of the trio, her heart broke. They were so small, so fragile, and so scared. The rescue, however, had to be delayed due to mechanical issues with her vehicle. Despite the setback, her friend Mary Nakiso stepped in, visiting the property every evening to leave food for the pups.
“They were so tiny and vulnerable,” Suzette shared. “It was beyond heartbreaking to see.”
Mary’s kindness helped keep the pups fed and hopeful, but time was running out. Suzette needed to act fast.
A Rescue Mission Full of Challenges
When Suzette finally arrived at the property, she was struck by the sight of the three dogs huddled together. Despite their fear, their bond was unbreakable. “They were so scared, but they had each other,” she said.
The first step was to win their trust. Suzette started with gentle words and soothing affirmations from a safe distance. Slowly, she captured the smallest pup, naming him Oscar. Meanwhile, Mary focused on the middle sibling, a little girl who quickly warmed up to her. Mary gently scooped her up and named her Jolene.
But the third pup, Ollie, was a different story. He was larger, more terrified, and kept retreating to the garage.
A Risky Gamble for Ollie
Suzette and Mary knew Ollie needed more time. They decided to give him space while they took Oscar and Jolene to safety at Camino Pet Hospital. Later that night, Suzette returned with a humane trap, setting it near the garage where Ollie was hiding.
The next morning, Suzette’s patience paid off. She found Ollie sitting inside the trap, scared but safe. She rushed him to the vet, where he was reunited with his siblings.
“They were all so scared, so cold, so hungry,” Suzette shared. “But finally, they were safe. And they had each other again.”
A New Beginning in Foster Care
After receiving clean bills of health, the trio was placed in the loving care of Suzette’s close friend, Genavie Ochoa. Their journey to recovery had begun.
Oscar and Jolene adjusted quickly to their new environment, showering their caregivers with sweetness and even enjoying belly rubs. Ollie, however, remained timid, still haunted by the fear he had endured.
“These poor babies went through so much,” Suzette said. “But we’re hopeful they’ll recover fully with time and love.”
Waiting for Their Forever Home
For now, the three siblings are safe, warm, and together in their foster home. They cuddle close at night, finding comfort in each other and the gentle care of their rescuers.
“I’m sure they haven’t slept this well in a long time,” Suzette wrote. “They are rescued, and they have each other.”
Suzette dreams of finding the perfect forever family for Oscar, Jolene, and Ollie—one that will cherish their bond and give them the love they deserve. Until then, she takes comfort in knowing that, for the first time in their lives, these three little souls are finally safe and loved.
A Message for Pet Lovers
This story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of animals and the difference a little kindness can make. For Suzette, Mary, and everyone involved in the rescue, the trio’s journey is a testament to the importance of never giving up on those in need.
If you’re considering adopting, fostering, or supporting rescue efforts, remember: that even the smallest gestures can save lives. Just like Oscar, Jolene, and Ollie, every pet deserves a chance to feel safe, loved, and at home.
