Abandoned and Afraid: Chase’s Rescue
In Bridgend, South Wales, a small, terrified dog named Chase was found hiding in dense undergrowth. He had been wandering the streets after losing his family, frightened and alone. Thankfully, three cyclists spotted flashes of brown and white fur and quickly stepped in to rescue him.
A Cry for Help: The Note on Chase’s Collar
Rescuers discovered a handwritten note taped to Chase’s collar, protected by a plastic bag. The note read:
“My name is Chase. I am 1 year old November 10. I am very friendly and kind, good with kids. I need a new home as my owner cannot take care of me. Please help me. Thank you.”
The heartbreaking message shed light on the difficult circumstances that led to Chase’s abandonment.
Hope Amid the Crisis of Abandonment
Chase arrived at Hope Rescue during an overwhelming time for the shelter, which saw a record-breaking 157 dogs in just one month. “While we understand there may be times when owners are desperate, abandoning Chase in that way left him at risk,” said Sara Rosser, head of operations.
Chase was deeply traumatized, refusing to eat, interact, or even move from his spot at the shelter. His fear was a stark reminder of the emotional toll abandonment takes on animals.
A Foster Home Sparks a Transformation
To help Chase recover, the shelter arranged for him to live with a foster family. The foster home provided a calm, supportive environment, complete with two confident dogs to guide him. Slowly, Chase began to trust again.
He started enjoying simple pleasures like paddling in the water and snuggling with his new dog companions at night. With gentle care, Chase’s sweet personality began to shine through.
A Happy Ending in Sight
Each day, Chase grows more confident and comfortable in his foster home. As he continues to thrive, his foster family feels more certain that he may have already found his forever home.
“Chase’s future is looking bright,” Rosser said. “We’re thrilled that after all he’s been through, he’s found a family who understands him and can help him blossom into the happy dog he deserves to be.”
