When Furby first arrived at Austin Pets Alive! (APA!), he was in terrible shape. The tiny 1-month-old Goldendoodle puppy had so many medical problems that no one knew if he would survive. But his rescuers refused to give up on him.
Each day was a battle. Some days, it felt like he might not make it. But Furby proved he was a fighter. Slowly, he began to show signs of improvement.

Struggling but Not Giving Up
Even as he got a little stronger, Furby still faced big challenges. He had neurological problems and couldn’t walk or even sit up on his own. Despite this, he kept trying. His determination was inspiring. His little spirit refused to quit despite the odds being stacked against him.

The Bigger Problem Behind Furby’s Story
Furby’s struggles point to a sad truth.
“Sadly, Furby’s story highlights a bigger issue,” said Luis Sanchez, APA!’s public relations and communications director.
Furby was surrendered as a sick puppy from a litter where the other pups were reportedly healthy. His exact history is unclear, but Sanchez explained the problem: the demand for designer breeds like goldendoodles often leads to breeding for profit, not health. This can result in puppies with serious medical issues and more being abandoned at shelters.

A New Beginning in a Foster Home
After weeks of care and love, Furby grew strong enough to leave the shelter and move into a foster home. That’s when his transformation truly began.
In his foster home, Furby was surrounded by other dogs and loving humans. The warmth and companionship helped him blossom. Little by little, he started to play and explore. Soon, the puppy who couldn’t even lift his head was running, jumping, and playing like a happy little bunny.
A Miracle in Motion
“He is playing with his foster siblings and learning what love is,” Sanchez shared. Furby’s recovery amazed everyone who had watched him fight to survive.
Hope for the Future
Furby still has a little more healing to do, but his future is bright. Thanks to the dedication of his rescuers and his foster family, Furby is living his second chance.
Soon, Furby will be ready for his forever home. The puppy who almost didn’t make it is now a symbol of hope and resilience — and a reminder that every life is worth saving.
A Message for Pet Owners
Furby’s story shows the incredible difference love and care can make. It also highlights the importance of responsible breeding and adoption. Adopting, rather than shopping, can save lives like Furby’s. Together, we can give more pets a second chance at happiness.
